Reusable Bowl Covers

Reusable Bowl Covers - Free Tutorial

We should all set ourselves the goal of reducing our waste, especially plastic waste. Saving the environment starts at home and YOU can make a difference. We have all seen shocking images of the plastic continent and beaches full of rubbish. Take our cling film consumption: It is so easy to reduce by using reusable food covers. Today we're going to show you how to make reusable bowl covers yourself quickly and easily. Plus, a cute fabric bowl cover will add a pop of colour to your fridge. Make saving the environment fun!

You will need the following for this bowl cover tutorial:

First cut your fabrics to size. To do this, grab the bowl that you are making the cover for and place it upside down on your fabric. Circle the bowl with an allowance of about 5 cm. Set the bowl aside and cut out the circle of fabric. If you have pinking shears, you can use them to make sure that the edge doesn't fray. If not, you can also use an overlock stitch to seal the circle all around.

Fold the edge inwards (about 1 cm) and sew into place close to the edge. Leave a 5 cm opening: You will need this for the elastic band later on. You will notice that the fabric bunches up as you are sewing because the outer edge has a larger circumference than the place where you are sewing the fabric onto. Try using clips to secure the fabric to make things easier.

Next cut off a piece of elastic that is slightly shorter than the circumference of your bowl. Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic band and thread it through the previously created drawstring. Then sew or knot the two ends of the elastic together and remember to remove the safety pin.

Try out the fabric bowl cover - if it is too loose, there is still time to separate the ends, shorten them and sew them together again.

Once the cover fits perfectly, you can close the opening. Be careful not to sew through the elastic band. Your new bowl cover is ready!

As a finishing touch, you can sew on a Woven Label with Text & Symbol to let everyone know who made this masterpiece.
